For the Daily Gate City

Members of the Keokuk High School Little Feathers are offering a chance to pull a prank on friends and get into the spirit of Keokuk's Homecoming, all in the name of good, clean fun.

Area residents can help support two of the Keokuk Little Feathers, Leah Maerz and Suzanne Williams, as they raise funds for a trip to perform at the Capital One Bowl halftime on New Year's Day.

Maerz, Williams, their families and fellow Feathers are sponsoring a Porta-Potty delivery from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 12 noon to 6 p.m. Sunday to kick-off Homecoming Week.

For a $20 fee, community supporters can have an outhouse, courtesy of Glen Meyers Driveway and Septic Tank Service, placed in someone's yard. The Feathers will notify property owners that their decorative lawn ornament is on the way.

Homeowners can only escape delivery with a donation and may have the option to reciprocate or request another destination for the Porta-Potty.

Maerz and Williams are juniors at Keokuk High School and are proud to represent Keokuk at this nationally broadcast event. They are both involved in extracurricular activities and are honor roll students.

Leah is the daughter of Paul Maerz and Martha Lapsley. She serves as a student council representative, was a sophomore cheerleader, is a two-year member of Purple Harmony Show Choir and first year member of Little Feathers.

She also works as a dance instructor at Raeann's School of Dance and has performed in off-Broadway productions in New York City.

Suzanne is the daughter of Craig and Penny Williams. She serves on the student council, is a three-year member of Purple Harmony Show Choir, Little Feathers, the KHS Band, and a two-year member of the Winter Guard.

She participates in the Select Choir, the girl's golf team and is a member of the Color Guard during marching band season.

Both girls will be competing in solo dances at the state individual's competition in Pella, Nov. 4.

Interested persons can help support their fund-raising efforts by “Ordering an Outhouse.”

Call evenings at 524-3213 or 524-4844 to order. Call 319-520-5283 during the day to order.
